Whoops, looks like I dropped the ball on making my very second post on time!! Oh well; no reason to give up now!!♥
So, I had intended on elaborating on my previous post in the one following it, so that’s what I’ll be doing right now!!
As for getting this site set up, I want to figure out a vision for what the whole theme is going to be and start working on getting that executed. I also want to figure out exactly what I want to exhibit on the site and how I’ll do it!!
Making regular use of this website definitely has a two-fold reasoning: the first is to make sure I’m actually working on it and not just letting it collect dust again, and the second is to have a place to direct people who may want to see my work for amateur or professional purposes. Plus, I like to find new ways to hold myself accountable, and posting things places, regardless of how many people will actually see it is one way that I can do that!!
I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons off and on for just a few years, but I’ve had a long-time love for fantasy and games. I’ve had silly little stories in my head for ages and I only recently came to consider that maybe they could make fun games instead of comics or visual novels or what have you!! Plus, there’s a game I really love that I think could be a fun endeavor to convert to tabletop ;)
Making a costume that I’m super proud of isn’t necessarily me making something that’s objectively a masterpiece or anything, but really just a bigger project that I really take my time on and do my best with in terms of technique and material. Whatever I can possibly achieve within my means is what I’m aiming for here. I just wanna break my habit of rushing things in impatience, especially near the end of a project.
Man I love lights and I got to do a little bit of messing around with microchips and LED strips, and I made a couple small things with programmed and not programmed lights. I just wanna pull some vibes from goal 4 and make something that I’m super pumped about and happy with that has cool, programmed lightwork in it.
I love sharing what I know!! And helping people!! Especially if it means getting them into something they maybe never considered trying, or maybe they did but never knew how to take the first step into!! I would love to teach one of my friends how to start making stuff or something like that!! I don’t think of myself as an expert in anything by any means, but you don’t have to be the best to help someone get a start!!
Improving my sewing skills!! This goes along with patience!! I’m very proud of my crafting work, but I feel like sewing has fallen to the wayside in my refining of costuming skills since I’ve most definitely put it lower on the list of priorities. It’s obviously improved slowly over time, as almost anything does with time and repeated practice, but I want to try to get to a place where I have the skill to make things that people could just wear, not just as part of a costume which already stands out, but like as a normal daily ensemble. I have a long-term goal of making pretty dresses for myself and other people♥
I have a horrible memory. It really benefits me to write everything down, so I’ve grown fond of organizing. I know that judges at cosplay contests tend to like progress logs, especially at higher levels, and during college I had to design and print process books for every project I completed, so it’s something that’s grown on me and had a purpose in my life in multiple ways. I think it would be fun and satisfying to keep track of my progress in a very neat and organized way, even if just for myself and my website. I would love to return to cosplay contests some day, and having this habit already under my belt would just be one less thing to think about during the whole process. I’m super excited to improve on this!!
I’m super excited to find my style in terms of design through working on this site and my work logs, and really having these goals is really motivating!! I’m someone who works well when I have something specific to work toward, but I need to be careful and not make it too burdensome, because then I’ll procrastinate starting it and never feel like I’ve competently achieved it, and that’s not productive at all. I hope that I’m managing my habits and expectations well with these goals, and I’ll do my best to keep up with tracking them!! I hope everyone has goals and expectations for themselves that are motivating and and they achieve everything they hope to this year and the next ones!!
